I don't know where this site was located. Whether on private or public (Forest Service) land. If it was the latter then your find comes under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA). It would be wise to read up on this as there are some pretty hefty fines for disturbing archaeological sites on and removing, in this case historical, objects from public lands. If my memory serves me correctly, an historical site is anything over 50 years old.
That’s true in some instances. You are correct. Unless you are on private lands or are an archeologist with special permits there are restrictions. Thanks for your diligence! We need more like minded people!
