We have reservations to camp in Enchanted Valley from Monday-Thursday this coming week (9/14-17) and are watching the smoke conditions with trepidation. Looks like guaranteed lung problems through Sunday, but then a good chance of steady precip starting Monday through at least Tuesday afternoon. If anyone happens to have knowledge here, are we being woefully naive thinking that could clear out the smoke well enough for us to keep our trip plans? There's no way we'll go if the air quality remains poor — even easy backpacking trips in subpar air are not fun for me, and I hate to admit it but this one won't be easy for me since my conditioning isn't where I'd like it to be. TIA

The best, most detailed, smoke forecast I know is below. But it only goes forward a day or so. https://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/hrrr/HRRRsmoke/ Here is the most recent near surface smoke forecast. This is for Saturday at midnight. While the smoke is still in the Olympics, it is not that bad and getting better every hour, particularly in the Western Olympics . Rain moves in on Monday and the rain actually cleans the air (one reason Olympics typically have some of the cleanest air on Earth). I think you will be fine (except for the rain). https://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/hrrr/HRRRsmoke/displayMapLocalDiskDateDomainZipTZA.cgi?keys=hrrr_smoke_jet:&runtime=2020091115&plot_type=trc1_t1sfc&fcst=16&time_inc=60&num_times=49&model=hrrr&ptitle=HRRR-Smoke%20Model%20Fields%20-%20Experimental&maxFcstLen=48&fcstStrLen=-1&domain=t1&adtfn=1

Thanks. Rain we can handle, or at least soggily endure biggrin.gif
