Yay. It's been raining steady for the past half hour here in West Seattle. Anywhere else?
Maybe this will wash some of that smoke away. Not sure how this affects smoke. Temporary respite or longer lasting?

Oh hell yeah! I’m wondering this too, is it safe to exercise in the rain? Does it do anything to the smoke?

I'm no climate scientist, meteorologist, or pulmonologist, so take this with a grain of salt. However, after working outside every day this week down in Olympia (much of it while wearing a respirator mask) I finally decided to go for a run this morning. I was only out for about half an hour but my lungs feel fine and dandy- much better compared to earlier in the week.

I keep reading that rain doesn't do very much to clean the air of smoke. People are saying we need wind for that.
The PM2.5 density is showing 27 (micrograms per square meter) at the nearest sensor to me. It was 50+ a couple days ago and higher earlier. AQI is all over the board depending where you look and what scale it's using, but by any count we've seen a huge improvement.
It hasn't been windy. I don't know what else to thank but the rain.

Wow! The Air Quality Index is currently 20--in the Green Zone! I can see the Kitsap Peninsula.
I hope this lasts for a while. ~z

Maybe rain makes the smoke sensors read a better number. Don't let 'em get wet, they'll melt like the wicked witch of the west!
