I just came across these on the Department of Ecology website. The ASARCO smelter that processed all the ore shipped down from the Monte Cristo and Silverton concentrators operated from 1894 to 1912 and was located at what is now the intersection of Hiway 529 and Marine View Drive in North Everett, just above the sites of the Weyerhaeuser Kraft Mill and sawmills. The smelter site contamination was discovered in 1990 and cleanup occurred 1999-2007.
It was the only smelter on the west coast that had an arsenic plant. The plant was moved to Ruston when the Everett smelter closed polluting much of Tacoma for many years another superfund site.
