Just an update to Aaron and Ozzy’s trip from a week ago.
Hiking Partner and I hiked up Hatchery Creek Thursday in hot smog and wondered if we had made a bad choice. Thankfully a wind came up in the middle of the night that blew all the smoke away. At dawn, it looked like a fairy had waved her wand and transformed the landscape into a magical golden and orange paradise.

All our efforts the previous day had paid off and further exploration beckoned...

When we returned to our camp at the end of the day, which we previously had all to ourselves, we were greeted by a miniature tent city. Thankfully, everyone was quiet and respectful, awestruck by the ethereal and almost surreal beauty that surrounded them.
Saturday morning it was time to leave, happy that our smoky gamble had paid off and feeling very blessed to have spent a few days in such an amazing paradise!

So beautiful, Nancyann! You did luck out with the combination of lighting and golden larches!

Snuffy and Kitya, I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing, the gold and orange colors were so intense. I think it was because as the sun was rising, it was filtering through smoke down by Leavenworth.
Downhill, we only saw one person all day in the Painter Creek Basin, but on Saturday a steady stream of hikers was coming in on the Hatchery Creek Trail, so expect lots of company!

We were just up there, chased out by incoming weather yesterday. It was a long hot slog and I was questioning whether it was worth it, but wow it was! There were only a few people on the trail and they were all happy and in awe of the surroundings.
Great photos of the golden light.
