Took a couple days off for an extended weekend in the Methow. Fall colors in the valley proper are a week behind, but larches in the surrounding area are looking good.
Saturday 10/3 - Upper Eagle Lake
Arrived at a packed trailhead at 10:30am. We brought a couple of e-mountain bikes for the trek - first time for both of us. E-bikes are amazing, but they still require quite a workout, especially since they are 20lbs heavier than a standard mountain bike. After 4 miles, the trail became a little too technical for us and pushing 50lb+ bikes uphill was exhausting, so we stashed the bikes and continued on foot. About an hour later, we were at beautiful Upper Eagle Lake. Spent an hour basking in the golden larches before hiking back down to the bikes. The ride down was quite bumpy - turns out it's a black diamond route

Sunday 10/4 - Hwy 20 Larches
Headed up for some further larch exploration along the Hwy 20 corridor on Sunday afternoon. No official trail here, just a route. Pictures can do the talking.

Monday 10/5 - Copper Creek
Took the abandoned (but still well beaten) trail toward Copper Pass. Only did 5.5 miles on this trail since I was sore from the previous two days and it was unseasonably hot with little shade after the first mile. Pretty views nevertheless.
Monday 10/5 - PCT beyond Harts Pass
Went for a sunset stroll on Monday night to see how the larches were doing up there. Was surprised to find that many needles had already fallen off. Golden light provided quite a show.

TimberGhost - both mountain bikes and motorized bikes are allowed on the Eagle Lake Trail, up and over Horsehead Pass, down to Boiling Lake and then on south to Angel Staircase. However, bikes (motorized or mountain) are NOT allowed on the short trail into Upper Eagle Lake. There even is a nice little parking area for them. Most riders are very courteous - but it remains difficult for hikers and cyclists to share the narrow trail - caution advised.
