Headed out to see some late October larches at Lost & Manastash Lake on Saturday. Manastash Road sure is a beautiful drive - lots of color down in the canyon. There were a couple of inches of snow at the TH. Our original plan was to hike to Manastash Lake, but with temps in the mid 20s and fresh snow dulling the golden larch color, we settled for a shorter hike to Lost Lake.

On our drive back from the TH, we lost 30 min waiting for a group of several hunters to chain up their big trucks in the middle of the road. Seems they were unable to get up the hill due to ice on the road. After they got out of the way, we cruised up and over with zero issues - kind of amusing
Next up was Cowiche Canyon. We started from the east TH and walked 2.5 miles west before heading back. The colors are quite vibrant right now. It was nice to see some fall colors in the desert, considering that Black Canyon and Umtanum Canyon both lost much of their color due to wildfire this year. We really enjoyed the interesting geology, especially the "Easter Island" rocks. This is a special place.
