I had to take advantage of the recent weather window. I was originally thinking of climbing Columbia Peak, and was excited about the challenge of doing that in a day this late in the season. But, I didn't get an early enough start (started hiking at 9am), and shaded areas on the ridge above Poodle Dog Pass contained icy, hard crusted snow which significantly slowed progress. I made it to the Twin Lakes overlook at 1pm and elected to sit there for 30 minutes in the warm sunlight and enjoy what will likely be a final goodbye to sunny, (mostly) snow free hiking in the high country for 2020. Back to the car just after dark at 5:15. Only saw two parties all day. No human footprints above Poodle Dog Pass in the snow from last weekend. Some ungulate though... and canine eek.gif Apparently someone couldn't locate the Monte Cristo town site... thought that was funny. (choice word omitted in pic 3 below):

Good on you for getting up there in the nick of time. I feel like such a loser-procrastinator that I STILL haven't done this hike, even though I live 20 miles from the TH. The photos are cool too!

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

My thoughts exactly upon waking up to rain smashing against the window this morning!

I saw a mountain goat up there several years ago. Sounds like a great trip. Love that hike. up.gif

Those lakes are so blue! It looks like high summer up there.
