Heard that Dateline did a story on Samantha Sayers (missing in the N. Cascades back in 2018) and it jarred a memory that I never heard if there were any results from the "extra searching" that went on.

https://www.goerie.com/story/news/2020/12/06/dateline-nbc-missing-seattle-cascades-hiker-samantha-sayers/3847754001/

Is the fact that this was on Dateline an indication that someone thinks she is somewhere other than in the N. Cascades?

BTW, if you want to move this to the Saloon, I'm okay with that.

Yours,  J

I suppose her fiance will use this for another GoFundMe iteration.

They didn't do an actual episode on her (this is just a list of missing people they add to).

The boyfriend  put up a large metal memorial sign on the trail up to Headlee Pass. I have never seen it mentioned in any trip reports or anything, so I guess it didn't last long.

The mother maintains that she isn't on the mountain & was kidnapped (because why else wouldn't they have found her).

A couple of people I've been in touch with made an effort in late 2019 and searched the south side of Vesper Peak, where her tracks led down in a snowfield, but the terrain is technical and extremely brushy. They also lost a drone in the search because all the metals in the rock screwed up the guidance system.

I don't think most people, even many experienced backcountry people, realize how difficult it is to find someone lost in the wilderness. Even with all the technology and cadaver dogs and searchers it's really more notable when they actually find someone.

Another reminder to renew a commitment to safe backcountry travel.
