You're making it sound like refusing to cooperate has nothing to do with it because other stuff. Almost nothing happens for just one reason. Americans have a culture of rugged individualism that benefited us as a nation in the past but worked very much to our detriment in this situation.
That is a bit of a myth. Our ancestors had to work together to be successful. Think wagon trains, barn raisings, etc.
In spite of what some folks tell you, right now there are groups helping people rebuild enough of a "shelter" to survive the winter after their houses burned down last summer in some isolated areas. These are folks you'd think of as those "rugged individuals" but they are getting help right now, in fact.
It's a myth kinda like John Wayne being a "hero".

This is a myth, the measured suicide rate during the pandemic is more complex, with the rate dropping considerably in some areas and rising in others, in any event the connection between the pandemic and suicides is unclear.
