Pt. Defiance 02-01-20 (with a river running through it)
Near record rainfall amounts recently have turned portions of the trail system into small streams.

The windstorm last night made quite a mess as well.

A new bench has been installed at the intersection of the Spine Trail and the Service Road.
Pt. Defiance 020120 05
The mosses and lichens and ferns are definitely loving the ample rainfall.

PD is and always has been an underrated urban trail, lets keep it that way.

Keep it what way?
It is the largest municipal park on Puget Sound. At 762 acres, it is almost as large as Central Park in New York City (843 acres), larger than Discovery Park in Seattle (534 acres), Lincoln Park in Seattle (135 acres), Seahurst Park in Burien (178 acres), and it dwarfs the fabulous Volunteer Park in Seattle (48.3 acres.)
It is also host to a magnificent stand of old Douglas Firs which stretch over a broad area of the park, not just a few specimens like those found at Wapato Park or those up at Emma Schmitz Park near Alki.
I'm sorry, but I am at a loss to understand the intent of your comment. Are you wishing it to remain a secret?
It's only "underrated" because people mistakenly assume that anything "Tacoma" must be second rate, which is laughable at best.
When Horace Greeley said "Go west, young man," he was talking about Tacoma, not Seattle.

Why would I possibly want it to be more popular. We do not need everything to be another enchantments. As far as city parks go it is peaceful and you can find a parking place on. Sunny day unlike the other parks you mentioned.

Haven't been to PD since the 80s, when Tacoma definitely was second rate. Okay maybe once or twice since then. Anyone thinking of visiting should go soon before all the glaciers melt.

Other than a very determined Pileated Woodpecker working away at an old snag, the only sound along the bluff trail today was the wind up in the trees.

In case it was not clear I love Port Defiance and have been going there since the 1950s.

It appears a visitor was walking with their dog along the beach below, and the dog ran up the side of the bluff just below the Dalco Passage viewpoint. The visitor apparently attempted to follow the dog, resulting in a rescue operation by the Tacoma Fire Department and the Tacoma Police Department.
I am assuming the visitor got stuck at some point coming up the bluff. The contour lines on the topographical map show that section as being almost vertical.
I confirmed with a TFD crew member that it was a rescue operation, and not a recovery.
Otherwise, it was a beautiful and sunny day in the park.

The news is breathlessly reporting the “rescue”

I shot the photos up to KING 5 - I figured being a Monday and a holiday it would probably be a slow news day.
