On the non-mobile version of NWHikers there’s a graphic of Bernie Sanders in his chair at the inauguration.

With the famous mittens!  Made by a teacher in the school my eldest son (now age 61) attended in first grade!

I think I know where the pattern book is for mittens.  The designs are above my skill level.  The book is cool as it was written in the 1940s, I think?  and has never been updated so models wear snoods and pointy hats.

I've also read that the Bernie mittens are lined. One also has to unravel a used sweater or two. They sound very time consuming to make.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I'm gonna be the bah humbugger.  I'm sick of that meme already.  It was completely overused within 24 hours, and the next several days was just more and more of it.   I just don't get the deal with it.

People are getting more inventive with it. I think it still has a few days of mileage left.  headrub.gif

Don't worry, just havin' some winter fun. It will be gone before you know it.  On the lighter side it struck me it might fit some of the livelier topics here as we all get a little older than we used to be.

However, Tom, it's fun to switch out the icon from time to time.

You can knit mittens.

And even make matching socks!

To put in a design, you work with grid paper.  There's probably a computer program for doing that out there somewhere.

Computer geniuses?

My mom used to knit me mittens from this pattern.  I got to feeling guilty for losing so many of them that mittens were the first thing I ever knitted.  I figured I'd make replacements for the lost ones.

I haven't seen those.  Just a whole bunch of unoriginal, not clever ones all over Facebook all weekend long.

I'll date myself.  Would love to see Bernie and his mittens in the Toad Hall ski photo.
