https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Highway-1-weather-storm-closed-Rat-Creek-Big-Sur-15908140.php. “ A peak in the Santa Lucia Mountains received 16 inches of rain from Tuesday to Friday. The city of Monterey recorded 3.46. Before the storm, Monterey had seen only 2.14 inches since Oct. 1.”

This makes for a nice car-free out-and-back bicycle ride. Unless they close it to ALL traffic of course... It slightly reminds me of when the 11th st bridge in Tacoma was closed to cars. It was so cool to ride/walk over it and just hang out there...great views. Good place for lunch.

Isn’t this CA Hwy 1, not 101? In the Big Sur area, I’m pretty sure 101 runs up the Salinas Valley, on the east side of the mountains.

Thanks for posting that, Sluggo - I did a road trip down the Coast Hwy many years ago and it was probably my favorite trip, ever. Here's another link to an article with more pics and a few maps, including a photo of a similar event further south in 2017 that made national news. Instead of washing away the highway that time, a humongous landslide buried it. https://www.sfchronicle.com/projects/2021/big-sur-closure/
