...from its base 16,785 ft below sea level, that is https://robbreport.com/motors/marine/climb-higher-everest-four-transport-1234597306/
Quote:
The “Mauna Kea First Ascent,” as the challenge was called, involved diving 16,785 feet to the base of the dormant volcano, kayaking 27 miles in open ocean from the ship to land, bicycling for 37 miles up the mountain, and then climbing the remaining six miles to the summit. It sits at 13,803 feet.

So over 30,000 feet tall including the part under water! About 1,000 feet more than Everest.

Why not fly a helicopter to the summit? That would have used a fraction of the machinery needed for the submersible portion. hmmm.gif

What is the difference in prominence between Everest and Mauna Kea?

Helicopters don't work too well underwater; you'll have to free dive.

I wouldn’t be so stupid as to use massive amounts of machinery then call it a first ascent. By this standard, the highest climb ever made was a trip to the moon. But you guys can worship lying idiots if you so choose.
Hee hee... that's why I put it in quotes. And in Saloon not Trail Talk. It's ridiculous, that's the whole point dizzy.gif

I don't see either of those claims in the article...? But again, this is not meant to be a serious post...

When Beckey did the first ascents at Washington Pass they hiked up from the valley floor. Now everybody drives up to the pass. Still plenty of FAs still being made in more remote mountains around the world, people making them take cars, horses, yaks, or whatever from sea level to the base of the climb. The part you want to do on human power is the part you do on human power. Some grumpy person will always complain about something. I think it's not pure enough unless you grow all your own food while you're building the muscles you're going to use to send. dizzy.gif
