These were taken on 7-21. The smoke plume died down at night then blew up big in the afternoons. Clear blue sky to the west of it. The highway is closed just east of the hairpin. I almost hiked Blue Lake but I had other business in the vicinity. I never miss a chance to take pics of Silverstar. The most beautiful mountain in the Cascades.

Do you think they are going to close the Blue Lake Trail?

Only if things change, like another fire starts, or if the existing fires go west. We are in a fantastic weather pattern right now; I hope it lasts. Right now you can see the bluest skies you've ever seen near Rainy Pass, with the smoke going east. Here's another shot of Silverstar and Cutthroat and the afternoon plume, from near Rainy Pass.
This is what happens when the rules of photography are broken. Chaos.
Bugs are really bad too, but repellant works.

Cub Creek fire Edit to add: this is the Cedar Creek fire, not Cub Creek. Sorry.

Dang, that is some serious fire. Looks like napalm going off in the forest.

The fire is bad, but it’s an ideal time to bike ride Rainy and Washington Passes from the west. Traffic today, a weekday was very light. Some smoke at Washington Pass where we turned around.

The poor folks in the Methow. What a nightmare there right now. Sun Mountain Lodge and Chickadee Cabin are in imminent danger. A lot of damage to the methow ski trail system and infrastructure already, more probably coming. Heartbreaking.

Good post but incredibly sad.

Add footprint to footprint of recent fires at 10:50.
The map is easier to see in one of Dr. Prichard’s paper, but she publishes so many it’s hard to remember which it was in.

Another fire east of Tonasket near one of my happy places. The Lost Lake area is having some non-official evacuations. The campground and private camps are emptying and there is a rumor that a fire camp is being set up. On a good note, the Forest Service land in that area has been treated throughout the years for fire resilience. It may get tested.

Today's updated incident map. This may be why ranger district folks are not being quick to return phone calls. Pretty busy out there. 8/5/21 map (Today)
