Around 11:00 yesterday morning while descending from West Tiger 3 after some solo Cable Line misery I ran into this chonky fellow. It saw me first by a few seconds and was close, probably just 10 yards uphill of me on the trail. I kept moving at a steady pace until I was far enough past it that it would assume I wasn't interested in whatever it was doing. We eyed each other nervously for a few moments while it chewed on some leafy breakfast before it sauntered uphill out of sight.
This is the second spring bear I've seen in the foothills (first was two years ago around 7:00 on the McClellan Butte FSR).
