Imagine the sound of a hiker yelling profanity at high volume. Thats what it sounded like when I read this. I decided to go to a certain place Saturday, I decided to not wait until later, because the smoke will be here later. Well, later is tomorrow! Friggin heck. Bleepin bleepin bleepin, bleep.

Wildfire smoke from British Columbia will be overhead as early as tomorrow afternoon. We do not expect the smoke to reach the ground level and forecast GOOD air quality this weekend. Areas in the Cascades may see more smoke and MODERATE air quality. http://pscleanair.gov/wildfires

Oh man, I just wanted one more clear blue sky hike, just one!
I had the perfect destination planned, to take 500 pictures for my winter survival slideshow. FIDDLESTICKS!
I talked to a guy today who said there are at least 4 fires in Northern CA now, and I-5 was closed for a while, or is.

The sense of dread… after seeing that NWS Spokane post… it’s only July 1st.

Ugh. Headed to Mazama as we always do over the 4th, to escape the fireworks, to a cabin you can't shut up because there is no a/c.

Speaking of fireworks, I see a few courageous towns in WA and elsewhere have banned use of fireworks for the 4th. Not enough LE anywhere to police that, and the pyrotechnic-obsessed nitwits probably won't restrain themselves, despite the high risk this year.

I got 3 blue sky clear air hikes in so far. Next year I am doing everything in June. I might have to take up XC skiing.
NOAA weather now says haze tomorrow morning but clear(er) in the pm at my destination, so maybe I will just go and hang out all day and see if the haze goes away or not.

Yes, forecast sounds a bit better. Winds from the west now.

Thank you! for posting that map, Altsnob. Can you post one for noon tomorrow? I went to the website and took a look, and there are so many options, I dont see anything easy to click on.
It does look better for afternoon on the west side at least.
(Edit: I think I got the map to work. If I zoom in to a section of the west side Cascades between US2 and the border, and do a search for "near surface smoke" there is still a little of it there on Saturday afternoon, but the map shows it dissipating as the day goes on. And still a little smoke there on Sunday morning at 4 am, and thats as far out as I can get a map for. So maybe I will go Sunday instead.
