What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Goddamnit, I hope they get it put out before it blows up. I’d suspect some assholes not obeying the burn ban camped out that the Cedar Creek TH. If that’s the case, it’s disgraceful.

There was a pretty good thunder storm the other night in the Methow. The Twisp drainage even got a downpour along with it which created some mudslides.

From the Oka-Wen NF Facebook page - about 15 minutes ago: Cedar Cr fire now estimated at 100 acres. 2 Crews, 2 helicopters, 4 air tankers and 4 fire bosses (small scooper planes) assigned. More resources on order. Early Winters Camground being evacuated. Cedar Creek and Wolf creek trail heads/trails being closed. From photos - it appears the fire is high on the ridge between Cedar Creek and Early Winters Creek. Winds this evening are from the NW. IMO - this looks like one of those fires that could turn into a MAJOR pain in the butt for the rest of the summer: smoke, large area and trail closures, possible highway 20 closures, etc….

With the lightning storm that went thru last week chances are it was the cause. Likely the same one that started the fire up by Steheiken.

Quite an airshow over the fire yesterday. 737 and another jet (embraer?) Dropping retardant. 3 air tractors scooping out of Patterson with 15 min turnaround and 2 bucket hauling helps. Today a sky race showed up at the Methow Valley State Airport but I haven't seen it fly by. Air show just started again today. Big Kudos for the crews on the ground. Temps expected to rise into the low 90s with 20 mph wind. From caltopo fire layer looks like fire up on Varden Ridge between Cedar Creek Nd Varden Ridge and something down on SR20 about a quarter mile up from the turnoff to Klipchuk.

2021-7-11 1130 Cedar Creek Fire remains active. (100 acres) A second fire “Varden” is burning a few miles to the west of Cedar Creek Fire, one half mile off of SR 20. Due to the Varden Fire USFS has requested the WSDOT reduce SR 20 down to one lane of traffic with a pilot car, between Mile Posts 170 and 175. Klipchuck and Lone Fir Campgrounds have been closed.

They did it. Mazama, WA -- Fire Information Washington Department of transportation has closed one lane of traffic on State Route 20 between mileposts 170 and 175 near Lone Fir Campground to enable firefighters to safely work on the Varden Fire. A pilot car is in place. Expect delays this afternoon and possibly into the evening or longer depending on fire activity and operations. Crews and air resources continue to make progress on the Varden and Cedar Creek Fires.

There are now THREE fires; 1 Cedar fire holding at 100 acres (as of this morning). 2 Varden fire - I think this is close to Hwy 20 - maybe 1/4 mi up the hill? Now 75 acres. 3. Delancy Fire - I think also near the highway, in the area of Cutthroat TH Rd. discovered this morning. 30 acres according to CWICC. The later 2 are active today. WSDOT placing the pilot car/one lane for 5 miles - that’s a long stretch for pilot cars! I’ll bet a wait could easily be 20-30 minutes or more. A Type 2 Incident management team has been ordered to manage these fires. This will not be a short duration situation, IMO.
