More competition may be in store if the Canadian fire enters the US. Northeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team 34m · Thursday morning update on Nk'Mip fire in Oroville, WA. Oroville, WA – The Nk’Mip Creek Fire started Monday, July 19, 2021 near Inkaneep Road within the Osoyoos Indian Band jurisdiction on First Nationals Tribal Grounds in Canada. The fire spread quickly due to low relative humidity and unseasonably dry conditions. The fire is currently on the Canadian side of the border and within proximity of the United States border. Due to the threat to the U.S., Northeast Washington Interagency Type 3 IMT Team 2 were stood up as of 7:00 am on July 21st and are now in Oroville, Washington. Local fire jurisdictions, Border Patrol, Port Authority, Okanogan Sheriff’s Office, Customs and Canadian Incident Command fire resources are all collaborating to put a solid plan in place if the fire was to cross the border. With updated mapping, the fire is more accurately estimated at 4,942 acres and growing. The level 1 evacuation order continues to stand in place for the 9 Mile Ranch Development in Molson/Chesaw community on the U.S. side of the border. For current evacuation orders please see Okanogan County Department of Emergency Management, @Okanogan.County.Emergency.Management, Facebook page. Today, Division Alpha will work to establish a contingency line with dozers in areas where there is high probability of success and ensure that firefighters exposures are equal with expected benefits. They will also scout possible dozer lines should the fires position change in the coming days. Currently, we have additional firefighters in route from Utah and Oklahoma with their arrival scheduled for tonight and tomorrow. The weather today calls for hazy skies as we continue to see smoke from the Methow Valley fires with thick smoke being pushed south of Oroville. We are looking at a high of 86 degrees Fahrenheit with a relative humidity of 11% and winds from the Northwest at 6 to 11 mph in the morning and then transitioning to a westwardly wind of 3 to 6 mph in the afternoon. Overnight the minimum temperature is expected to be 56 degrees Fahrenheit with a relative humidity of 43%. This will allow for poor humidity recovery as the winds begin blowing from a north/northwest position at 3 to 6 mph by 1900 PDT. Fire information and the incident Command Post is located at Oroville High School in Oroville, WA. Fire information contact: Don Malone at (509) 822-8125 or Starr Farrell at (509) 680-7002 or you can also follow us on Facebook @NEWIMT3

Where did you see/hear this? I was just on the Oka/Wen NF website looking for closure info, and Cedar Creek Trail was the only closure I could find. I assumed there would be closures up the Twisp River drainage, I'm actually a little surprised this didn't happen sooner. Edit: I found it. Everybody, go to the Methow Valley Ranger District official site and it'll tell you updated stuff. This is for trail conditions, where you will see closures. Trail conditions Their home page: Home

Fall sometimes does that. Seriously, big fires on steep ground need a frog strangling dump of rain to knock them down, and then the fire smolders until snow hits. At that time, everybody forgets about fires until the next summer panic occurs. In fact, if the west side of the state has clean air, all is well and the fire does/did not exist. tongue.gif Now, no insult intended, that's just the way it is. See the topic about Silver Star and the hope that the "nice weather" continues. Blue sky for some, smoke coughs for the rest. We have no rain in the near future predicted. We need Lassie and Ranger Corrie. Dunno why that came to mind.

Caltopo w fire activity & history Fascinating Map. The Cub creek fire is burning through the last bit of previously unburnt Pasayten north of Winthrop. Slowing down as it hits old burns. Cedar Creek similarly to the south. 100 years of fire suppression plus climate change…it’s all gotta burn. How hard will Mazama get squeezed in the coming weeks/months?

Wow--per that map. I didn't realize the fire was on the edge of Crystal Resort, then the park is just beyond that. Yikes. Are they threatened currently? I haven't been tracking this these past couple of days. Dumb question, but are the fires headed east or do they sometimes switch it up and head the opposite direction? Winds and weather do change of course. ~z

Zephyr, yes. Wind will influence which way a fire goes. If it can be turned back in on itself, it'll slow down and crews can do burnouts to deprive it of fuel. A burnout is what it means--burning up unburned areas between the main fire and the fire line. That makes for a nice, big fire line and it should slow or stop the fire's progress. A factoid: If it looks like one may have problems with a fire overtaking them, stepping into The Black is one way to perhaps be safe from burning up. The black is the burned area.

Love how it shows a couple of "active" fires (or hot spots) just south of Harbor Island, one of which is the steel plant.

I think people are miss reading the map. Confusing historical burns with current. You’re fine. As long as the wind doesn’t shift. Lol

More area evacuated this evening, Wolf Ridge area. Just saw a video of the fire and it is not behaving very well. Guess it is spotting ahead and causing some problems. A crew is at the Sun Mtn. Lodge according to one post. That's for protection not for recreation. smile.gif

Apparently there was not an infrared flight last night for either fire in the Methow area. Thus if you are looking at the maps I posted they will show a perimeter line based on the most recent perimeter data that is posted on the NIFC FTP server. That perimeter data is now about 20 hours old.
