I was thinking about camping out at the far end of Goat Lake sometime soon. I will have a raft to float there and will fish along the way. Is there anything to see on the other side of the lake? Mines or old mining equipment? And for those that have fished it, have you had much luck? I hear there are brook trout in there. Thanks

The Foggy mine is high above the far end of the lake.

Have fished there once or twice, no luck, let me know if you do better. The camp spot I stayed at across the lake had just one good tent site and one unlevel but doable one.
Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

What did you use for bait?

Just flies and lures (rooster tails) no bait.
From the campsite if you look to the SW, you will see Ida pass, the route the miners took to and from Glacier basin and Monte Cristo. Looks like a pretty steep route, but those miners were tough and didn’t mess around with switch backs. Not sure if there is any remaining evidence of a trail.

There are definitely fish in goat I’ve caught quite a few on Jake’s stream a lure, my go to. The further you get from the outlet the bigger and more numerous they get, but I’ve pulled 12 inch’rs out of there. Down by the waterfall on the far end is usually a decent spot.

Thanks. I'll try there. Any brook trout or all cutthroat?
