My laptop and desktop crashed some years ago and have lost links/access to free topo maps with trails that can be loaded into my Garmin GPS. Can anyone please recommend sites that offer free maps?

I *think* that GPS depot (.com?) has what you may be asking about.

Thank you. But it seems that their Garmin maps are based on Mapsource which is no longer available from Garmin.

I still love switchbacks.com maps, available from http://switchbacks.com/nwtopos/ Sadly, they have not been updated for 7+ years, but it is a blessing in disguise too - they have many trails that are now lost or abandoned. You don't need to use mapsource and use garmin basecamp to install maps instead, but mapsource also still can be downloaded and works, even on my windows 11. https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-install-mapsource-if-it-didnt-come-with-your-gps/

I use Garmin BaseCamp for viewing maps and tracklogs (and installing them on devices). BaseCamp is ugly, but it's still the only application that lets me scroll and zoom around smoothly on detailed maps with lots of tracklogs, even on a large screen... For maps, I use the increasingly outdated maps from Switchbacks.com mentioned above, plus this distribution of OpenStreetMap (updated once or twice a year): http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/usa-pacific-osm-topo-routable
