63mi/23k' was the most hike I've ever done for a lake visit. When Dick suggested as a plan B, it sounded good and I didn't research much. He said it's one of the most beautiful lakes in the Olympics. Anyway, we stayed on trail for 6 days with many passes to go over, started from Staircase TH looped around the lake and LaCrosse Mtn and back. 2 nights by the lake and 3 at Nine Stream, Honeymoon Meadow and HomeSweetHome.
distance 63.11mi range 820' to 5558' +23555' -23552'
First day at the lake was misty with a few sprinkles, then got unexpectedly cold down to freezing. Our tents all got frosted, my 40deg quilt did not keep me warm enough, but survived. Fortunately, our 2nd day improved a bit though still chilly and the night was clear.
Some wondering around the lake basin:
Marmot Lk below, Mt Duckabush behind Hart Lake Lake LaCrosse from Hart Pass
Many bears around lake, too busy w/ berries everywhere:
Milky Way aligned with the lake:
Back on the trail, first to O'Neil Pass then over Anderson Pass to Honeymoon Meadow camp.
from O'Neil Pass over LaCrosse Pass, counted 62 switchbacks
Last night at the meadow:
Going home!
