We needed to get out of the car coming back from Central Washington and a lot of the trailheads were jammin' with people getting ready for hikes or in already. Had never stopped at the nature trail and decided to hike to Happy Creek Falls. The first part is a very sturdy ADA trail which looks unused to my jaundiced eye. Then, off the end of the ADA trail, a mile plus route takes one up paralleling ( noisily) the NCH but then climbs up and out to rejoin the creek. Happy Creek falls is full of evidence of the former mining that went on there well explained on the reader board at the trailhead. We saw 5" valved and lengths of pipe with nozzles used to hydraulically mine. Remains of the water wheel are there as well as obivously cut huge cedar stumps with springboard holes. Nice place to get out of your car and have an hour walk except for the highway noise. How many times have you driven past this place without giving it the time of day? ( lots for me....)
