Yesterday on the way to Carne Mountain we had a big surprise. A brush cutter and a backhoe were clearing brush and scraping the Phelps Creek road. We couldn’t believe our good fortune! It looks like they are going to be working on it for a while, equipment was still there when we left at the end of the day. The brush cutter is clearing way off to the side and the backhoe is removing the debris and scraping. He hadn’t got as far as the real rocky section, but the brush cutter went all the way up to the parking lot.

This is great news. I’ve since upgraded to a vehicle with more clearance, but I once got my Civic stuck on that road (briefly), high-centered after I sank deep into the moon dust that I was unprepared for.

I used to drive my ‘04 Civic up roads almost that bad, but it has 315,000 miles on it now, so I stick with the Tacoma. wink.gif

This is great news, as I didn't think this road was cared about. I have submitted requests to the forest service before, hoping for improvements.

I used to specifically look forward to the Civics I would always, inexplicably see at the end of bad roads. I'll never forget seeing an old (1980s? The really low ones) Civic at the end of the Middle Fork Rd, which you could drive all the way to the Dutch Miller Gap th. This was after we got stuck, in a truck, on a stump that was IN the road.

I bet they picked it up and carried it over the really bad spots!

That’s what is so nice about Civics! They are so small that it’s easy to weave around the potholes on really rough roads like the Foss River and Tunnel Creek before they fixed it. Plus a couple of big strong weightlifters could just pick it up if it did get highcentered. biggrin.gif
