Some odd posts on their Facebook page today. Wonder if there's going to be a new job opening soon.

Do you think someone is getting fired for thanking vets or something? What is the odd part?

I know at least one vet that now works as a LE Ranger -- I would guess the % of veterans working for the USFS and the NPS is higher than average. It's vetran's day -- honoring the service of vetrans is the right thing to do.

The FS posts at most a few times a week to this account. Today there have been multiple posts every hour with photos of dead animals on a day that the office is closed. Seems like they might have been hacked.

I'm with you. We can honor veterans without glorifying the killing of animals. Someone is trolling.

Nyah. The state is pretty big on hiring and honering veterans. They probably asked them to submit pictures for vets day posts and that's just what they chose to submit. As for not posting much the rest of the year, the rest of the year isn't veterans day. Edit: And they don't have to be open. They can schedule these posts in advance.

I think it's odd, too. Thier twitter feed is the same. Dead animals everywhere. Surely not every veteran on the forest submitted photos like this.

I have a lot of respect for the military and for veterans, but is it that surprising that people who chose shooting a gun as their career choice like shooting animals in their free time?

I searched for most of those people on USFS's publicly accessible employee database and didn't see any of them there, so I suspect those photos were pulled from a group of forest users which trended heavily hunters. Looking at their Facebook page I see there's at least one post with someone in front of a huge bucket of huckleberries, so it wasn't exclusively hunters.

Meh - I know hunters who aren't veterans and veterans who aren't hunters. To each their own, but it's just unusual to see the forest service post over 10 kill shots online as a way to honor veterans.

Not that I think it is real...in fact I vote for hacking, but back in the day, most everybody it seemed, who worked for the FS and was male, hunted. And it isn't just killing animals. It's good food and healthier than the plastic wrapped stuff in the store, which also requires killing, just in a more industrial manner.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I hope all the folk expressing negative feelings about hunting are vegans or at least vegetarians....

Please take the arguments about the morality of hunting to stewardship. I don't want to get this thread locked.

No one here is being negative on hunting, just pointing out it's a weird theme. I'd say the same if they were all holding bags of tofu.

There are a few more that were added to Twitter, and some really are upsetting. The USFS would understand how upsetting these photos are be to many forest users, and they wouldn't use these kinds of photos to this great extent on their social media pages.
