From NPS: Due to adverse weather and high-water levels, the Carbon River has completely washed out Fairfax Forest Reserve Road E. just before the Carbon River Entrance that provides access to the Carbon River Trail. (link) Photos from NPS:
Meanwhile, on the other side of the park, debris from the swollen Ohanapecosh seems to have damaged the bridge to the Grove of the Patriarchs. Photo from a WTA trip report:

I imagine there will be a lot of washouts to discover in that part of the country. The Cowlitz River came up pretty high, which indicates that the feeder streams must have been going at a good clip. The usual areas were flooded and hwy 12 had a detour.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

If I were the one staffing the park's social media accounts, I would have made it a point to note that the washout is outside the park, so as to spare us all from the usual misguided outrage.

I can't tell from the pictures but is this BEFORE your reach the FS 7810 bridge? or after?? Pierce County is saying nothing, NPS site shows a closed marker at the park boundary, and Google maps shows road closed almost back at the Visitor center... I didn't think there is much road after that turnoff.

You can see the bridge in the background in the photos posted. So it looks like it's after the bridge, right at the park entrance.

Anyone hiked beyond this yet, to Ipsut campground? I would imagine the river has done a lot more than this to many sections.

Makes sense, the road is probably very suspect right now. I wonder how long it will last. Parking might be a major problem going forward. Maybe the NPS can work something out with the Mountaineers branch to make the Irish Cabin property a parking lot eventually, who knows.
