One of the more interesting things I have found on a hike. And the grossest!
Ever seen anything like this?
What animal do you think did this?
There are all kinds of guts and entrails in that... Icky.
This was along the old logging road from Granite Falls up to Spada Lake. I call it the "Road to Nowhere" because it is seriously washed out 8 miles in...
This area is riff with Mountain Lions, this part of the road seems like their litter box. Mountain Lion scat all over the place...
So, Trichobezoar is my guess.
Looks like it has some kind of mold or growth on it from being there a bit?
-------------- What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I once ran across undigested raw bacon laying in the middle of a trail. Later that day, a hiker said he left a package of bacon out while he was packing his gear, and when he turned around, it was gone. My guess was that a critter grabbed it, wolfed it down, and a little later upchucked it. Perhaps this was some regurgitation of some sort.
Kind of similar to the osprey. Vultures will unload from the front end when having to launch in a hurry. A friend witnessed that happening and said the smell was pretty disgusting.

That is a deer 'gut pile'. In pix, note the single Maple leaf in lower tight corner, that leaf os about 6" across ! Surely did not pass thru Osprey. Gut pile is about size of 'two gallon bucket' load.
Doesn't look like the typical gut pile to me. But it is hard to tell from a photo. Also, the coyotes and crows usually take care of the tender stuff pretty quickly.
Saw legs and hide left along the road yesterday and managed to keep my demon dog out of it.
