Avy danger was low so tried to solo Whitehorse. Didn't get it but tagged the highpoint near Lone Tree. Hell of a view. Not sure why it doesn't get more traffic Parked at TH and camped night before on a stomach full of chili Mac and bluemoon ipa. Went up Neiderprum trail to Lone Tree pass. Warm temps for winter maybe 40°. All major blow downs had been cut by some trail heroes. Was not expecting a clear trail but glad to have it.
Continuous snow around 3k. Frozen solid with a thin layer of storm powder so wore crampons. Old avy debris slowed progress. Powder got deep in drifts but snowshoes proved useless sinking all the way down then skidding off. Crampons all day.
Legs weren't going fast enough by the time I made the pass so made the decision to bag Whitehorse Ridge as consolation. Some cliffs required navigation and side hilling on steeper snow until the final ridge. Big cornice on top kept me back a little. Nice view of Whitehorse, three fingers, Bullon and surroundings.
Glissading was not good as the powder acted like a brake. Hike down went quick and got home a day early.
Roughly 5k gain Used ice ax and crampons Snowshoes we're dead weight

Whitehorse is a beast! Lots of failed attempts on that one, for many reasons. Definitely not an easy peak! Great views up there though. It's good to hear the trail was cleared. I guess it was pretty bad a few weeks ago. Who ever did that, thank you!

Nice. With enough maintenance, the hike to Lone Tree Pass would be a worthy destination by itself.

Thanks for the write up! Still looked to be a worthy day up high! rocker.gif I've been hesitant to climb Whitehorse seeing how it can be so bipolar lol. I might have to head up there this year, cheers!

Once I'm in better shape I'll give it another go. Hoping I can get it this year before the bergschrund opens up at the top at the end of spring

I was just thinking about this, too! I am hoping to find some partners, to make an attempt in late May.

If anyone wants to attempt whitehorse, I'm game. Had a failed attempt a few days ago due to slushy snow and wet avy activity. I want a rematch.

I just checked the forecast. Several feet of fresh snow this weekend and more during the week. It'll be at least another week or two to stabilize. I definitely want to try it this spring if I can. Maybe second half of May? And if anyone wants to join that'd be swell.

I've stared at Whitehorse for far too long, so I'm down to give it a go with you (and any others) once conditions stabilize!

Now that I am 60 pounds lighter than my first non-starter visit, which hardly qualified as a visit, I would like to give it a go. Perhaps Memorial Day Weekend, if weather and conditions hold? (Or, if they don't, June 4-5)

Michael Lewis, how was the trail? I did an attempt in January and all road/trail was covered with fallen trees all the way. For 3.5 hrs we could get just 1700ft of elevation, turned around. Was that cleared out?
