Last fall I made a reservation at Steliko to stay overnight in honor of my best friend's birthday. It also ended up being my daughter's first hike!
We headed up last Thursday in the unseasonable warm weather. The thermometer read 70 degress when we parked at the gate and loaded up for the road walk. The gate was still closed as of 4/7 but the road is in great shape and will be fun to drive when the gate opens. We saw no snow.
The lookout has been beautifully renovated. There are several propane appliances - a two burner stove, a refrigerator, and heater. Someone had even left behind some boxed wine and Maker's Mark which we left in turn for others. The stove worked great to make steak fajitas and we enjoyed playing board games in the LEDs lights until late.
It got windy overnight but we never needed to use the heater. In the morning we enjoyed some coffee before we braved the wind to get off the ridge and back to the car.
A wonderful place for some R&R and we hope to be back someday.
