^ This conundrum is why, long ago, it became the common and accepted practice to apprehend the culprit, ascertain whether they were really guilty, and if they were, the men of the village escorted the offender off to some distant location where he was hanged, strangled, or drowned. (Who was the guy they found in the peat bog? https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/europe-bog-bodies-reveal-secrets-180962770/ ) This became the common practice in almost every culture and civilization on the planet up until about 50 years ago when we lost our stomach for it. I get that. I think the death penalty is the U.S. is a joke - If you're poor and black, you get executed. If you're white and you got money, you skate. Opposed to the death penalty? I got two words for you: Tony Wiggins. As to petty theft? If the prosecutors' offices wanted to do something about it, they would - sentencing guidelines notwithstanding. As it is, they really don't pay much attention to petty theft here in Pierce County, and they haven't been for the last two years. YMMV

For Mt Si, Teneriffe and Little Si, bus service is resuming for weekend trailhead access. Mailboxers and Issaquah Alps folks get no love. https://trailheaddirect.org/2022/05/12/trailhead-direct-2022-update/

Just saw this and wanted to say that I called the WTA, left a message, and got a call back on Monday. They said they have neither the authority nor the expertise nor the capacity to get involved with this, and suggested we work with the various land managers on a solution.

Cool, then you will likely return to your car with broken windows and a dead battery, that is if they don't steal that too.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

IDK about Pierce County , but it appears that the King County Prosecutor's office has a lot of issues keeping them busy.

WARNING: Prosecutor's Office Phone Scam Reported Telephone calls have been received that appear to be coming from the King County Prosecuting Attorney's phone number: (206) 296-9000. The caller has identified himself/herself as a special prosecutor or from the Court, claims the receiver is under investigation or has an outstanding warrant, and attempts to extort money. This is a scam. Please hang-up and treat the call as you would any unauthorized, fraudulent request. The Prosecutor's Office does not accept payments or collect funds over the phone.

I "solved" it long ago, drive a crappy car, windows down, typically drive a ways down a rough road, nothing of value inside except for maybe some spare change. One guy I used to hike with would drive his work truck, filled with work supplies and trash, never had a problem.

This topic reminded me of a post on Reddit by RestEqualsRust. Hiding spot under a mountain of carbage.

Wow, looks like the Cougar Mt TH definitely needs a volunteer watch program.

Margaret's Way Trail, on Squak Mountain but just across WA-900 from Cougar Mountain, just got hit again this morning. At least 10 cars hit. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report-2022-05-20-0468790499
