The last time I was up in the Tubs, I took the Pinnacle Lake route. There was a lot of very old graffiti, mostly arrows spray painted on boulders. It detracts from the pleasant feel off what is otherwise a nice, semi alpine area. Does anybody have any info that would help with a graffiti removal project?

Good luck. That was done with road paint.

Can I just take a wire brush and a battery powered vacuum? The dust devil would be to gather up the paint so it doesn't just go into the soil.

I think you are over-thinking it, just wear dark glasses or something....besides I need to finally make it up there and I get lost easily. That paint is probably older than you Son, lol.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Bring a GPS. smile.gif You definitely should go see the place, it's pretty nice and a short drive as hikes go. When you get to Pinnacle Lake, go over some talus on the left side, then you'll come to a little creek coming out of a meadow that leads up:
Then pretty soon you come out in paradise. You can follow this track, put it in your GPS and it will give you turn by turn directions to the Bathtub Lakes from the Pinnacle trailhead: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1238829979# Please don't get lost! And if you want you can help me clean the graffiti up. smile.gif

Some google is making it sound like I'll need abrasive chemicals for this. frown.gif

There's another rock on the west ridge of Pilchuck marked "last water" or something. It points to a route down to the tarn at 4960.

I'll get reamed for saying this but I wish we weren't giving such explicit directions. This has always been an adventure to find the route. Tough at times even with the markings. Sort of a treasure hunt. I found the occasional daub of paint to be touching some history from another era. ~z

agreed. remove these maps/links. to take off paint, use a drill with a wire brush attachment. bring safety glasses and gloves.

Thanks I edited my post although. Sorry for the thread drift but unfortunately this place is hardly secret anymore. There have been 17 reports on wta in the last 10 years with half of them giving directions. I'm surprised wta have a page for the place(with no description) and leave these reports up.

The forest service did the graffiti for an official signing project!! They didn't have any wood signs at the time so they just figured ahhh what the hell let's just bring a can get it done.

I've ordered some tools for this. smile.gif What's the best way to keep the paint I scrape off from getting into the soil?

Good luck with that. That paint goes all the way thru the tubs. All the way to the Lookout. I say track down the DUMBASSES who did it and make them get rid of it!
