Hmm, just took a look. Most of them are unique IPs. Guest posting is allowed in the support forum. Perhaps one of them can chime in.

And 800 earlier today? 'taint right. How come so many folks are dropping in when there's no free food?

I cleared out the sessions table for guests and it dropped to 28 guests, a minute later it was up to 200 guests, then 300 guests, and still growing, so they are still out there...

Either chafing or Whipping. But something's brought the traffic. 801 guests at 17:18.

My neighbors said it wasn't the food. It was the free beer.

It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.

From my prior life doing Internet tech support. We always saw a HUGE increase in the amount of callers and first time Internet users in the 5 weeks after the holidays. Everyone getting new computers and Internet connections for Christmas. Not sure if that would be the reason for this though.

They all seem pretty shy. Must be a bot of some sort. Perhaps an invasion of those fly eating robots.

What if a heavily visited page has a link to one of Haiku Hikers haiku's. Whenever someone visits the page they always load the haiku. Would that cause this problem?
Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

It may be a link from a busy site, but I doubt that Haiku would do it. The bait would have to be a little closer to idea that Kleet came up with.

i bet it's a worm--they've been attacking phpbb based boards for a few weeks, and so it's probably going to get worse.
most of the traffic to my website is people trying to spam my (mostly quite pointless) blog in various ways.

Fortunately we've addressed vulnerability to the worm (thanks to Brian Curtis for the heads up last week).
Edit: OK, looks like that was it. Put some stuff in to exclude worm requests and voila down to 1 guest and holding.

What's everyone got against worms? Wait till PETA hears about this!
