I bought a Patagonia Atom slingpack last year. I have used it pretty much every day since then, as a purse, and also as my inbounds ski pack. I got it on a "web-only" special off the Patagonia website and paid about half price of retail. Last week, it blew out its main zipper. Patagonia gave me the option of repairing my ratty stained sad looking Atom, or getting a new one, the one with the simpler and better design, and no stains on it. I got my new Atom in the mail today. up.gif Patagucci is expensive, but with customer service like that, what's to complain about? up.gif

Maybe if people like you didn't go breaking all their products and demanding new ones, they wouldn't need to charge so much in the first place. hockeygrin.gif

Well, it doesn't sound like anyone demanded anything in this case. wink.gif My philosophy is if you buy from a place that touts 100% customer satisfaction and markets themselves as such, e.g. Nordstroms, REI, you should expect to be taken care of within reason. If you don't want first class you can always froogle the economy fare.

The horse face has had a DIRECT connection to China for YEARS! It's been a couple decades since they were good! A girl friend of mine is an airline stewardess. She goes to china all the time. There she buys North Face mountain parkas (yes the same as you get in the store) for 19.00$. The same parka here costs 350.00$ TB

China? What company DOESN't make stuff there? I can count them all on one hand, and they are all itty bitty.

China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Uruguay, Mozambique; anywhere but USA. Companies start up here, than as soon as they develop a following they offshore manufacturing. It doesn't really affect the quality as much as you might think, though, IMO.

I was refering to about fiftenn or so years ago... but I didn't realize it was 'like-that'!! That's interesting... I've never been fan of North Face, but around the time I mentioned there gear was highly rated. And there customer service used to be well thought of.

Actually, it can, but it has more to do with QA than the workers themselves. Chinese factories are currenlty the best tent makers.

Mountain Hard Wear has the greatest jacket of all time. There not in China, are they. I've had it for years, sent it back for some repairs, came back 6 weeks later as good as new! up.gif

I'll have another!

Yes, they make a lot, if not all, of their goods in China.

A big thumbs up for MSR! I broke a snowshoe binding yesterday. Today I went down to MSR's repair faciity in South Seattle. I came out 15 minutes later with 2 new bindings and no charge. My snowshoes have had about 7 years of hard useage. They were out of warranty. Still, they not only replaced the broken one but the other as well.

Patagonia & Arc'teryx are two larger ones. Any others? Big Agnes? Mountainsmith? Granite Gear?

Perhaps what you mean to say is they don't make EVERYTHING in China, because these two at least make some stuff in China. Practically everyone does, if you do some Googling you'll see what I mean.
