you begin to get a tiny bit burned on hiking even as the weather gets better, the snow is gone and the bugs start to vanish. but out you go anyway, determined not to waste a second!
As sept rolls around, maybe it's time for another rendition of the car camp social?

you don't work too hard during the week,
'cause you're resting up for the weekend.

.....when around the office he could be seen transfixed in utter gaze upon the distant mountains, as well as in deep thought about his adventures there. And he became known around the office as the man who "loves mountains."

I've always liked August and September best. More snow is melted, more bugs are dead, more humane daytime temperatures on those south-facing switchbacks . . .
Allison, if you think work interferes with getting out, try work, a spouse and n children. When I do get out, my 5-year-old often sets the pace, but then there are lots of consolations--like hiking with your 5-year old --I can't really complain.
Hopefully BPJ and I will be leaving after work on Friday and will be out through Monday. I might get out a couple times in September, too.
P.S. Allison, I keep forgetting to ask my father-in-law if he still has those down items or if they sold at his fundraiser.

You're lucky it's only 99. Texas is having a (relatively) mild summer this year. The last summer I spent in Dallas was in 2000 and I saw 116 degrees a few days, which was a Dallas record. That summer also set the record for the number of 100+ degree days (45) and the number of consecutive days without rain (92). Can't say I miss it in the least.
