Sure, there are hundreds of wonderful places to go. You might want to narrow it down a bit, though, so we have a better idea of the type of backpacking you want to do. (ie. distance, amount of time you have, difficulty/elevation gain, lakes or mtn tops, ......)

Shameless Plug
You might want look at the pictures on my site to help you decide. Personally if I was coming from out of town I would avoid anything near Seattle. The famous picture of Shuksan you are refering to is probably the one from Picture Lake which is near the end of SR542. http://groups.msn.com/davidkarenshikingpage

davex, is there something wrong with the space bar on your keyboard? tongue.gif Check the "Links" link up top for weather links. Bug conditions seem to be getting better. Not sure about bears, but they're generally not a problem.

One at a time
The Joffre Lakes pictures are still on the site, they are under 'Pictures', then 'Whistler', you can also link directly to them through the guide. They are after the most recently posted 'Stein' photos. Joffre can be snow free in June as it was this year and late into October. However there are no guarantees when it comes to the weather. The 'official' Canadian government weather site is www.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca, however don't put too much faith in their forecasts Landslide Lake is a low elevation hike so it can be done as early as June, although if I was in Strathcona later in the summer I would go to Cream Lake instead. As far as bugs go they follow the same pattern as they do elsewhere. The start appearing towards the end of July and taper off in September. They are their worst on a hot day with no wind. I suggest getting an early start, wearing long pants & a long sleeve top and not stopping until you reach the alpine. Bears - why does everyone think Canada is overrun with bears? The last time I saw bears on a trail were the two I saw at Cascade Pass and yet I never hear anybody worry about them on that hike. Bears are a non-issue unless you are wilderness camping, and then just use proper food caching techniques and you will be fine. paranoid.gif
