I spent four days over Labor Day at South Lake Tahoe. This was my first time hiking in the Sierras. I met a friend and his family at the home of his wife's aunt in the mountains above the lake. The house was at 7600'. I took a little morning scramble up the ridge behind the house to 8000'. Quite different for someone born and raised in Seattle.
We drove as high as 9000' to hike one section of the PCT. I did get out with my friend for one nice hike. It was up Mt. Tallac, the highest peak in the mountains ringing Lake Tahoe, at 9735". My report is posted at: Hiking Northwest. Look under "Trips-2002". I should have pictures up by the end of the week.
