"Cougars have been driven away by people who have fought back using anything within reach, including sticks, rocks, shovels, backpacks, and clothing -- even bare hands. Generally, if you are aggressive enough, a cougar will flee, realizing it has made a mistake."
This reminds me of a response to a Cougar thread I saw on another forum. A poster said "You are a 150 pound APE--act like one!" It sounds funny, but it's good advice--I'm a 220 pound ape, not cat food.
Even though I am crazy about the lightweight thing, I always carry a ball of yarn and a small catnip mouse. Nothing cuter than a 130 pound tom batting one of those babies around.
