Edited: Replaced erroneous Indigo Lake with the less glamorous Lake 5698 DISCLAIMER: I am generally regarded as an idiot. Just because I did it doesn't mean it's a safe and reasonable thing to do. I do not condone this type of high risk endeavor. Day 1 Crossed the Suiattle (Do NOT ford at this location !!!!)

Sweeeet! You didn't like the log crossings near the trailhead? Me really wants to get up there someday.

Correct. In the past I have used a log near the TH but I didn't like the looks of the (nearest) current log and I wasn't in the mood to brush bash on the south side. So I decided to ford some where up stream of the old bridge.

Were you able to find the fishermen trail up to Box Mountain lakes?

Did you ford the Suiattle at the old bridge site? That looked daunting when I was there a couple months ago. Ditto the question about the old fisherman's trail. I'm curious about how much misery I could've saved myself coming down if I had actually found it.

I didn't even try to stay on the "trail" from about 2200ft to 3200ft because it's going to be a very steep hellscape of tree fall, devils club, slide alder, salal and rotting logs regardless of any historical trail (parts of which are completely obliterated. Where the trail is intact it would have been relatively easy going w/o it. My advice would be to carefully study the topo and choose the best line in the terrain. Once you're above 3200ft it's a cake walk if you take a decent line. I didn't cross at the old bridge. It's too deep there and would be a REALLY bad choice.

Oh good. I forded probably about halfway between the washed out bridge and the trailhead. Mostly knee deep but waist deep in the middle. I wouldn't have wanted to deal with any deeper water than that. Powerful current.

Hah! Good point sir. Depends on which map you look at. People also call the upper lake 5698. I started calling it indigo after I got back and my wife said my spot messages were coming from Indigo lake. And the name suits it. I'm almost curious enough to research it. There ARE a cluster of 3 box mountain lakes. 5698/Indigo is a 4th lake. You should just go see it for yourself wink.gif Google earth agrees with me Indigo Lake http://goo.gl/maps/3YnqJ But google is wrong in this case. I replaced Indigo with Lake 5698 (which may also be erroneous)

Thanks Chiwak. I go buy the Hi-Lakers/Trailblazers database and that's listed as the Upper Box Mountain lake. The lowest lake is Box Mountain Pot.

Did you get a look at Glacier Peak, and if so, do you think there might be a good route from Glacier Peak down Lime Ridge? I'm thinking of hiking Cady Ridge to Glacier Peak and then down Lime Ridge to Sulfur Spring. Do you think this is doable? Thanks!

I should be doing homework
