WE are far from having a shortage of bears, cougars, or coyotes. I'm not advocating shooting cubs, but there is definitely an excess of them and cougars too since the ban on hunting with hounds. Hopefully by the time the average voter figures this out, there will still be time to restore some type of balance before we loose the blacktail deer completely.
I never said we were close. The sportsmen have a responsibilty to conserve our wildlife. Shoot fawns or cubs isnt a good way to do it. Doesnt mean I am saying there anywhere close to killing off the population though. Stock animals are another thing, there like a crop. Thats all I was trying to say, that theres a differance between the two.

You can't cry out that Mother Nature will set the balance when humans have settled in much of certain types of habitat, and are even now transplanting WOLVES of all things into places that they no longer belong.........................Now there's one for a new thread...WHY would they want to do something as stupid as transplanting a wolf where they have long since been gone?
The radical Greens, as I have been saying, don't want those people in there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wolves make things very difficult for anyone running stock, and if they are hand to mouth folks, loss of stock could drive them out huh.gif

follow up: Our property backs up to a watershed which was/is a popular hunting area even though illegal.
Hunting in watersheds is legal, as long as you hike in. You can hunt there on foot all you want. I picked up a nice deer last season over by Curlew that was basicly a big 2x2, but with big eye guards. Eye guards can count as a point, as long as they are 1" or longer. Dont forget to look for those. Also, there is one unit on the east side that allows for 2pt mule deer, 488 Grayback. In some of the GMU you can get a whitetail with any visable antlers. This is the Deer I got last year. 148yds uphill (as per the laser range finder). He was laying down behind two logs, peeking over them looking at us from time to time. He left me no shot but to put one thru the throat. That accomplished two things.. instant kill, and he bleed out real nice by the time we got there. toothless.gif
Nice buck!

Thanks! I didnt get one this year, but my Dad picked up a nice 3pt in Upper Finney Creek area. He called me on the cell phone that morning, all out of breath and excited "I got a deer! I got a deer!" That was the happiest I have seen/heard my ole man in years! Couldnt help but laugh. Last deer I remember him getting was up in Warehauser in the late 80s. While dragging it out, it slid down the hill in the snow, knocking Dad down like a bowing pin. He landed on his left side, on a stump, breaking 3 ribs. Needless to say.. that was ONE LONG DAY! I ended up with hypothermia, dad had broken ribs, and the other guy with us.. got knocked down by the deer also and almost broke his leg. Who says hunting is easy? toothless.gif

wow! Quite a story there. Yeah I went 15 years between deer myself...last one being a 2 pt. blacktail down by White Salmon Oct. 2001. Needless to say that was a good day. The other was a 2 pt. muley in 1986 up by Bonaparte Lake...Cumberland Mountain. Back to the subject, I don't tolerate the practice of killing Sows and cubs, but making it a law would be hard to enforce and bring up issues brought up by others. I personally do not hunt bear as I don't care for the meat that much.

Those are both good areas. Hunted them both. Picked up a few deer east of White Salmon, just out of Goldendale. Dad used to hunt over around Bonaparte all the time. Seems to be too populated now. toothless.gif
