Gaia was good to me this weekend Took the bike up the Entiat Trail to the intersection of the Anthem Creek Trail. Here took the trail all the way to the top of Duncan. Cleared trail. Several motorbikers utilizing this trail. I thought there would be more new snow. Barely anything at all. Traversed over to 7936 easily, but did not stay on the final west ridgeline to the top. Traversed around. From south of 7936 I wanted to camp in Choral Meadows so I took the west ridge down. There is only one section of 30 feet of slab that was class 3. I don't like slabs, so I took it carefully. Down and over to lovely Choral Meadow. 5600feet of gain. 8 hours to here for me. Spent the last of the time before darkness listening to Tracy Chapman and drinking whiskey in beautiful meadows. Woke up the morning and headed up to the pass to Choral Peak. Long time register here. Nice to see lots of familiar names. Went down to Choral Lake and went down the outlet for maybe 100 feet of elevation and then traversed over to the rounded Gopher. After a short rest on top traversed down to the meadows west of Choral and then traversed about 6500 feet on SW flank of Choral to meet up with the Choral Creek trail. This area has been burned so cross country was exceptionally easy. Trail comes and goes up to the pass. From the pass I easily went up 7363 and admired the last of my views. Down I went and back up to Choral Meadows to pick up my overnight gear. From here I went down basically following Anthem creek until it crossed the trail. This part has not been burned and there are still about 30 blowdowns on this part of the trail....but then you enter the burned area where the two trails meet at 5875....took the trail down and took the bike down the trail. 8.5 hours. Not too tired. Weather turned out even better than I thought would happen. Peaceful beautiful meadows!

Nice area. up.gif Two days before you got there we were just east on the Saska pass trail looking straight over at Gopher. I have a goal of getting into those meadows west and south of Choral Lake. Soooo, this TR is good beta for me. Thanks for posting.

I like your route choice. Those meadows look really nice and it's good to see they aren't all toast.

Amazing trip! I was camped at Fern Lake, on the summit of Choral Peak on the 23rd. Wanted to run over to Gopher but didn't have the energy. Maybe next year I will camp in Choral Basin,it looks special, but must admit I am glad I didn't miss Fern Lake.

was that your bicycle at the bottom of anthem? Some friends from the Coulee Riders and NMA motorcycle clubs cleared Duncan and Anthem, I can't believe how many trees they cut off the trail...

Yes, that was my bike. I also was extremely impressed at the amount of cutting they did on that trail!!!

And one of just 3 entries since 2013. The previous page jumps back to 2004.

Absolutely amazing how many people have been there in the last month. As neek and I were coming out the N. Fork Entiat, we run into Milda, Dave S. and Crispin coming in to do Gopher. And another group was there a few days later at Fern Lake also to do Gopher and Choral. Stefan has unleashed the monster!!!
