Does anyone know if there was an old route up Mt David (White River/Indian Creek area)? Found an interesting old trail up there, plus several re-routes. The old trail has ancient phone line and insulators, and drops 400 feet from the ridge at 5800 to a pond. Since the phone line went thataways, did the trail at one time?

Sawyer...I too saw that trail branching off downslope when I was on David. I speculated that it might be a shortcut to the valley. Lookout trails were made to accomodate pack animals and as such had to avoid cliffy areas. On Pugh the trail went to Stujack Pass and then they hoisted the material by pulley. So I was imagining the trail which you spotted was the quick hikers way to the valley.
