I think I must be doing something wrong...I searched Trail Talk for the word "dog" and no hits were returned...but I am looking at a topic right now with the word "dog" in it...what am I doing wrong? (I did not use quotes " " in my search term)

the search function doesn't see words with three or fewer letters.
try searching for the same keywords on Google and put "nwhikers.net" in the search string.

It will work for 3 letters as long as you use the exact phrase search and pair it with a word that has more than 3 letters. For example, "lost dog" (be sure to include the quotes unless using the advanced search exact phrase option). Otherwise, you're going to get a zillion hits.
