So many beautiful photos and I bet you were using your Nikon Coolpix. Mine broke and I dearly miss it, may have to see if I can find another on Craigslist.
It was nice to meet Kitty at the social, it looks like you two are very happy.

Most of the photos in both this and the previous report were taken with the Nikon Coolpix.
Some of them were taken by Kitty with her Apple Iphone, which seems to do much better on the close-up shots and in rendering truer colors. (Some are marked KK. For reasons I don't understand, the captions are not appearing on all the images.)
I dropped my first Nikon Coolpix on a gravel bar on the Ohanepeccosh River in August, and was able to find another one on Ebay for about $35 bucks.
We are very happy. I think she enjoys my cooking, and she makes great salads.

My iPhone 8 consistently seems to take truer colors also, but I did a comparison of quality of zoom and the Nikon won. That’s a good price, I got mine for $60 a few years ago.
Glad to hear you two are so happy!

09-07-22 - 09-12-22
Headed out Wednesday morning and arrived at my destination mid-afternoon.
Went down to check out the beach and make sure the Pacific Ocean was still there. Weather was fabulous.

Fixed up a little dinner after a long day

Thursday I took my time getting around to cooking breakfast, because I was busy baking two blueberry pies.
Mossyrock blueberries from Franko's in Hoquiam. Unfortunately they didn't set up properly. Really having some issues lately with getting blueberry pies to set up. Gave one to my host, the other one went to Birdie and the girls up at Kalaloch.

So I kept driving north on 101 to the Cedar Grove

Unfortunately, what was a pristine little grove of ancient Western Red Cedar became the unfortunate victim of the shake bolt pirates, who really left one hell of a mess behind.
I spent the entire afternoon tidying up the area as best I could - I felt like I was cleaning up a rape scene.
As incongruent with its surroundings as it is, the neat little "woodpile" looks a hell of a lot better than it did before.

I had a brief conversation a few weeks ago with the newly assigned Sheriff's deputy in the area and gave him a heads up on this. Not sure what, if anything, will come of it. It's possible that it was a legitimate operation, as all of the old puncheon was removed and is all neatly piled up by the road next to a 5-yard pile of 3/4" crushed rock.
I came back to find a package had been left for me. It contained some fresh-picked yellow wax beans and a "Savoy Cabbage". I never dealt with a "Savoy Cabbage" before, so I thought I'd try something a bit different.
I quartered the cabbage, drizzled a bit of olive oil over it, and sprinkled on a bit of anise seed, dill seed, fennel seed, and mustard seed, and roasted it at 400° F for about 30 minutes, then finished it with a bit of the balsamic glaze.
The scallops were pan fried in olive oil with a bit of salt, glazed with a sauce of Moscato, butter, olive oil, lemon juice, and vegetable stock. Fairly fabulous.

Friday morning I got up and made a bit of breakfast

After breakfast I walked across the street and picked enough berries for a couple pies
blackberries Rubus Laciniatus 090922
I put together a couple pies, using about 1/3 cup of tapioca in each pie.

I delivered the one on the right to the new Sheriff's deputy. The one on the left went up to Birdie, Liza, Abby, Ellie. Birdie said it set up "perfect".
I just got off the phone with Birdie (09/14 @ 13:50 PDT) and she said she had the last piece for breakfast this morning and put a dollop of sour cream on it. Said it was fabulous.
After the pies were both delivered, I headed north again. I just can't get enough of those old cedars.

Then I headed back south and stopped at one of my favorite beaches. The weather was again most fabulous.

I spent the rest of the afternoon watching the waves and the sky.
Kalaloch Beach 6 090922
In my blissful state, I completely forgot about the fact that I did not bring a flashlight with me. After the sun dropped below the horizon, I trudged down to the Beach 5 trail in the twilight. Fortunately I found a great garden stake, which I used to poke my way up the trail at Beach 5 in the pitch-ass dark. Remind me to not make that mistake again. Even sillier when I consider I carry no fewer than three flashlights with me in the truck.
In no hurry, I had breakfast Saturday morning about noon.

Then it was time to head up to another one of my favorite beaches, where I had a hell of a time finding a place to park.

To be fair, many of those vehicles were being driven by the fishermen who came up for the smelt and surf perch on the high tide.

I went back and had a very late lunch.
lunch 091122
Then I walked over and picked some more berries.
blackberries (Rubus Laciniatus) 091122
I was thinking about "jam", but it occurred to me that might pose some challenges, as I only have two small burner elements working right now on my stove, so it would be hours before I could bring that big canning kettle to a full boil. I can do pie - I still have an oven (although the broiler element's out too) although I'm not sure who to give the pie to.
Dinner Sunday night was a humdrum affair.
broiled venison medallions on wild rice with hazelnuts and ginger and salad made with Joe's fresh-picked red leaf lettuce, tomato, and yellow wax bean (and a couple other goodies.)
Monday morning I packed up and came home after breakfast.

No mermaids were harmed in the making of this trip report.
