Alleged Sockpuppet!

The Trail of the Coer d'alenes (I grew up here, why can't I spell it!) is paved so as not to have toxic metal dust stirred up. Apparently, the railroad used mine tailings for ballast?? while laying out track. The website advises users to avoid sitting along the unpaved edge. Then there's Libby, MT where their disease is called Libby Lung. I guess the cleanup jobs in the Silver Valley of Idaho have pretty good job security.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

-> Coeur d'Alene <- Capping is one method of containment. The old creosote plant on the west shore of the bottom end of the Duwamish River was all capped with about 12 inches of asphalt, as they concluded that attempting to remove the contaminated material (so close to the water's edge) would more than likely do more harm than good. It's now the site of the new container handling facility for the Port of Seattle. As to job security: several years ago I asked a site foreman working on a nearby property how long this clean up project was going to take and he said "We've got work until at least 2050." Considering the progress made thus far, and the amount of work left to do, I believe that was wishful thinking on his part. I don't believe they can work that fast.

Here's an in-depth article on the issues by a Canadian publication, The Narwal ‘The border is this imaginary line’: why Americans are fighting mining in B.C.’s ‘Doughnut Hole’

Ballsy to say it’ll take “decades” to green up. 😂
