This isn't something I'm interested in, since I have a previous generation radar and don't want the camera. For me the added situational awareness and the way the radar communicates with drivers to make them aware of my presence is fantastic. But the appeal of having an evidence camera is pretty obvious.
The camera can be always on, always off, or radar activated, meaning the camera will record whenever there is traffic behind you. The camera is 1080p but can do 720p to save battery. It claims 6 hours with everything on all the time.

Can you please tell me more about this feature? I have not heard of it before and am this close to pulling the trigger on a Varia and Edge Explore.

I think DCRainmaker had video of this in action in his Varia review.

That's an older version of the radar. If you don't need the evidence camera, it's half the price of the new one. To the best of my knowledge nothing about the radar has changed.
I leave mine in solid light mode. It changes to flash when there's traffic behind me. The rate it flashes is controlled by the speed of the front car; car goes fast flash goes fast, car slows down flash slows down.

Thank you. I had not seen the new sale on the radar/tail light combo. The radar-only version had been on sale for awhile and I'm glad I waited for the tail-light version. The camera version is a bit steep for me.
DC Rainmaker is one of my go-tos for reviews, not sure how I missed that.

I'm curious. I use the older RTL510 and, like you, run it solid light mode. I'm able to manage about 4 hours or slightly less on one recharge. Is the battery life significantly, if at all, improved with the RTL515.
I cannot foresee me ever needing a tail camera except maybe as evidence if I get hit from behind and happen to live. But I would spring for an RTL515 for another hour of battery life.
BTW - Thanks Cyclopath for putting me on to Radar Tail Lights some time ago. My evidence is anecdotal but best guess is that 80%+ cars really DO notice me and give me a lane of travel if possible. On the downside folks rolling coal also notice and do their thing

I looked this up and Garmin is claiming the same 6 hours in solid mode for the 510 and 515. It sounds like battery fatigue? Mine is also the RTL510 and I don't think I'm getting 6 hours anymore but I don't like riding without it so I top it off when I start getting ready for a ride.
