Who'd have thunk there'd be a gorgeous pair of two different types of falls just a few football fields and a cliff away from one of the most popular trails in the state? And a pool at the bottom? I beat the heat in style cool.gif

The snow this year felt more like April, which was perfect as I headed down a talus slope then into open forest to avoid punching into seasonal streams. Less than a quarter mile later I was on sturdy compact snow drifts at the riverbank. No way I was crossing that flood of meltwater. Headed upstream 1/4 mi to an easy to spot pool and lower falls. I went for a dip with my toes here, alone and out of sight of the alpental crowds moon.gif

The snow was perfect, no punching at all (except two times I stepped on hidden streams I should have noticed signs of). It made getting to the upper falls at 3550' a breeze (and getting down a fun slide flush.gif ) You can see the upper falls faintly through the trees at the lower ones, but it's still a 1/8th mile or so of slightly less open forest. You need a reaaaal wide angle lens to get the upper falls, so I cursed the couple lbs of DSLR and glass I had carried and had a refreshing drink at the falls drink.gif and took it in with my eyes PS: if you lost a water bottle with an NWAC stick on it right at the upper falls viewpoint I found it. Shoot me a pm.

Then I stopped again at the lower falls (why not, the trail is closing all summer starting in July) to get the shot without sun glare

That bear bait sandwich looks almost as good as the falls!
