I know the original post is old but if anyone is looking, we've gone to Mazama (Lost River specifically) for the last 10 years or so and never heard a thing. I've asked friends with cabins or property owners in other places--the Plain and Leavenworth areas, for example--and so many tell me they do indeed hear fireworks. I can't understand who would be so reckless as to do fireworks in a national forest adjacent/east side location, but apparently some do.

I have a friend with a small dog who spends a blissfully quiet 4th with her dog in a downtown Seattle hotel. No one does them on the streets down there like they do in neighborhoods, they can't hear Lake Union, and the newer hotels are quite soundproof.

^^^ I'm kind of surprised any downtown hotel allows dogs.  I guess anything's possible for a price. They must have designated rooms for that.

As an aside, I noticed that the original poster never responded with info on where he landed up - in fact stopped visiting NWH shortly thereafter. I looked him up.  His artwork is pretty cool:

Looks like many of them do, even the luxury hotels.

He had a studio near Clearview and they displayed his artwork regularly in the Snohomish library. As I recall he developed significant health problems and moved up north - Bellingham I think
