I had been wanting to climb Cannon for a while and after doing some research decided the west slopes up and then an exit via the upper Enchantment's basin made the most sense. I decided to take the approach from the Stuart Lake Trail. Slept at the not quite full TH the night before. There was some mild brush at the start with some boulder/cliff bands to weave around as we headed steeply uphill. Soon a boulder field starts.
Around 5200 there is a cliff band to climb up through which is tricky to navigate. It was a little slick with some running water in spots. After this there is some more trees and mild bush followed by more boulders and some slide alder to weave around up to the basin around 6200 feet. This section was pretty straight forward and mostly pleasant. We just keep the water fall on our right and aimed for a gap in the slide alder where you we step across a small stream. Once in the basin we refilled our water, hand some food and then turned left around some boulders and headed uphill to Cannon's NW ridge via the path of least resistance. Lots of dirt here made for slow progress at times. We found some snow patches low on the ridge but nothing major. The ridge itself had some not straight forward route finding but generally we moved climbers right to avoid major obstacles, some we just climbed directly over.
The summit is a slab/boulder problem but nothing too hard. After a break we dropped down via the Druid plateau, down to Prusik pass and then up and over to Enchantment.
The views of the upper basin here were outstanding.
After a cool Class 4 scramble up to Enchantment we descending down a gully to Isolation lake and then up and out via Aasgard and the Colchuck trail.
The long descent down Aasgard and the rooty Colchuck Lake trail were the crux of the trip.
