For sure, I think it was mid July when we went, and shortly after there was a pretty big forest fire nearby. I need to get back someday, my partners hiked to the upper lake while I rafted to the island and fished.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Bear spray fail thread made me think of a recent encounter with these two snarling monsters. The one on the left wanted to mess me up for interrupting his make out session. I managed to shoot both of them several times before fleeing the area. I'm sure they got their business done after I left.

Fairy Falls, Dinden National Park, Queensland, Australia. A gorgeous, tropical waterfall (30-40ft tall, I think):

Ancient Australian animals:

A few words about the Cassowary: The Southern Cassowary is an amazing bird of ancient lineage. It’s got powerful legs with three-toed feet (just like a dinosaur); the fearsome claws can rip a man open. It’s also a “keystone animal” because it plays a big part in keeping Daintree Forest - a World Heritage site - alive: it eats and spreads the seeds of numerous plants whose fruit is poisonous for other animals. Unfortunately, it is a threatened species in Australia.

I know, non-hiking related, but the Sydney Opera House has to be one of the most gorgeous buildings on the planet. And it’s big: 185m long and 120m wide. It feels like one is at a football stadium.
