Was scanning a map or the PCT around White Pass and noticed Black Mountain, a fairly prominent peak at 7242, actually just a bit higher than Mt Pugh. But unlike Pugh I have heard little or nothing about Black Mt. A quick search of TR's here did not reveal much. Curious is all, no way I will try to climb it.

It's a striking peak. I've seen it from several different vantages. Very prominent from various viewpoints along Lost Creek Ridge.

Route Loser, my wife, and I did Black last season. Took the high route through the painted traverse. Great peak. Regsiter was wet, so if you head up there, bring a blow dryer.

Or if you happen to go this week, just lay it out in the sun for 30 seconds or so.
I went up and over Black as part of the PT 9 years ago. It was nice. Had to bail on the BMHR a few years ago. Need to go back.

Painted Traverse looks like such an awesome route - very much on my tick list.

We went up Black during our Painted Traverse in 2012. Fun peak with good views.
We crossed the ledge to the right of approach ridge.

I might be wrong, but I'm fairly certain this is the peak from a couple other vantages.
From near Fire Creek Pass on PCT:

Jason Hummel, Rowan Stewart, and I skied the north face of Black in the winter of 2015.
I’ve been back many times.👍
Here’s a video Jason put together of our trip; https://vimeo.com/129059971

I always called it "the mountain that looks like a spritz cookie". It has that knob on top, and several ridges that go outward along with deep gullies. You can see it with that picture that rbuzby took.
